Introducing: Aníbal Gomescasseres
From the beginning of his artistic practice, Aníbal begins his exploration from flat paintings of digital appearance to progressively involving himself with new mechanisms of expression by utilizing technological devices and reflecting about how these have become essential in our lives.
His images are mainly divided in two proposals; the first one named “Artificial Satisfaction”, that operates like screens in which the artist displays the artificiality derived from the obsessive cult to the body and the culture of pleasure, allowing to establish archetypal situations from the consumer society, normally utilized in the advertising industry. The second proposal is called “Lighting Atmosphere”; this series is conceived as a counterbalance to his more critical work, utilizing themes that allude to introspection. In this series, illumination has become the main catalyst of its motivations, in which the content and the surface of its images play with the notions of still life and minimalist concepts. This proposal highlights exterior spaces in which light spots are presented to rhythmically transport us to lonely places, where the frivolity of the color and the simplicity of the making of the objects represented is brought to life by the incorporation of different lighting techniques.
These frames are created using translucent materials, highly bright colors and glossy finishes. The pieces could be called mediatic paintings due to the production process in which different mediums, both analogic and digital, intervene.
“Cartagenero” (born in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia) from birth, Aníbal studied arts at Academia Superior de Artes de Bogotá. Even though he is part of a new generation of contemporary artists, the recognition of his work has grown in the last few years, not only nationally but also internationally. From his most recent accomplishments we can emphasize that in 2011 Anibalinaugurated his series “Artificial Satisfaction” at the Art Fussion Gallery in the Design District of Miami. In 2012, his exhibition “Lighting Atmosphere” opened at “Galeria La Cometa” in Bogota. Aníbal also participated in two international fairs: Art Shanghai and Art Korea in Seoul. Besides these important presentations, Anibal was invited by the Midori-So gallery in Tokyo, Japan to present his individual exposition “Dreams”. Also, Aníbal was included in an extremely important publication for new contemporary artists: “The New Collectors Book” in New York.
Currently, his work is part of large private collections, one of them being Correval, one of the most important investment banks in Colombia, and Fundación CardioInfantil in Colombia, a foundation that gives free treatment to children with heart disease.
